    Ever wanted to take a spin in a kayak, paddle together with a diverse group in a dragon boat, or learn how to row either on land (Concept2 RowErg machine) or on water?

    Community Boating Days are the perfect opportunity to do just that! Even better? The open house event is hosted for FREE!

    Plan on being in each boating opportunity on average 20-30min before having to return back to the dock. We will have all of the necessary equipment needed, however, if you have your own PFD (life jacket), we highly encourage you bring it. We are limited in children's sizes.

    Minimum age required to participate: 9

    What to bring/wear?
    - water bottle
    - sunscreen
    - sunglasses/hat
    - extra clothes/towel in case you get wet
    - medium to tight fighting clothing if opting to row. Baggy/loose clothing will get stuck in moving parts of the boat.

    On Saturday, June 1, 2024, Canal Dock Boathouse, Inc. extends a warm invitation to teams/gyms/individuals to take part in our upcoming Seventh Annual Dragon Boat Regatta. Set to take over the waters of the New Haven Harbor, this annual event brings families, friends, and communities together to enjoy food, sport, and entertainment. Cultural activities will entertain families throughout the day, music will hype up the crowds, and food will be offered from local food trucks. The highlight of the event: Dragon Boat Racing!

    Teams of 17 (16 paddlers + 1 drummer) will race side-by-side in 45-foot long boats painted to resemble dragons. Competitors may register as a whole or sign up individually/partially to be joined in a community boat.

    In addition to the regatta's overall 1st place winner, awards will also be given for "Team Spirit," "Best Campsite," and "Best Drummer Costume." Spectators will have a front row seat to all of the action from our back platform!

    TEAM Registration*:

    • Early Bird - $1700 (until March 31st)
    • Standard - $1850 (until April 30th)
    • Late - $2100 (before June 1st)

    INDIVIDUAL Registration*:

    • Early Bird - $90 (until March 31st)
    • Standard - $100 (until April 30th)
    • Late - $125 (before June 1st)

    *Registration includes one free practice session per boat the evenings of Thursday, May 30th or Friday, May 31st. Sign up will be available closer to the dates.

    Additional 1hr practice sessions are available in Canal Dock's "baby dragon!"

    • "Baby Dragon" = 8 person dragon boat that is housed at Canal Dock all year
    • More than 8 are allowed to attend! We can do laps and trade off at the dock. However, a minimum of 4 paddlers are required.
    • Available Monday-Friday, 5:15pm - 6:15pm; willing to work with a later time if requested.
    • 1hr of skills and team building provided by an experienced coach - race starts, power pushes, rhythm etc.
    • All necessary equipment provided. Paddlers are welcome to bring their own Coast Guard approved PFD (life vest) if preferred.
    • Cost is $250 per practice session
